MIRROR

Mirror, Mirror on the wall

An empty figure looking at me from within

Fingertips longing to touch, silver shiny plane objecting the way

I tried placing my cheek on the frame, to understand, discover

Why is the figurine looking so vain? Full of emptiness

I move a step forward, feet shuffling on the wooden floor

I hear the clinging sound of shackles but they are nowhere to be found.

The look is hollow, emotions sucked out dry.

The look pierced right through my skin.

The clutches leaving a mark behind

There's a sense of uncertain familiarity,

The blank, cold face was too much to take in

“Who are you” I yelled from the other side

My words echoed,

I blinked my eyes, the figurine was gone.

I lay in bed, draped in crisp whites

A cold breeze of whisper “ I am you”, buzzing in my ear.

The words were crystal, source unknown

From where did it come from, I wondered.

Mirror, mirror on the wall

I heard a chuckle coming from the shiny silver.

I saw the figurine staring at me at last.

Still hollow, empty,

Looking for a path to leap out of its transparent captivity

Scraping her nails on the frame,

The dark side of the silver plane

The darkness took a toll on my eyes, eyelids struggling to keep up.

“Just believe yourself, You will find your way out”, I spoke in soft tones

Then smiled and leapt into the melody of the night

Mirror, mirror on the wall

The next time I saw the figure,

It wasn’t just a figure anymore, it was her

She’s wasn’t black but a cascade of light

still empty but fulfilled

Smiling at me from within.

Ahhh…

she finally found a way to leap out.
